Memorial Day 2026: Remembering Those Who Gave Everything

-

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Their sacrifice helped protect the freedoms we have today. It is observed on the last Monday in May. In 2026, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 25.

The holiday was first known as Decoration Day. After the Civil War, Americans began placing flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers. Over time, this day of remembrance grew into the national holiday we now know as Memorial Day.

Each year, Americans are encouraged to pause at 3:00 p.m. local time for the National Moment of Remembrance. This simple minute of silence is a way to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

This Memorial Day, we, at American Veterans Aid, pause to remember those who never came home. We also remain committed to helping veterans and their families understand the support that may be available to them.

We are grateful for the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans and their families.

At American Veterans Aid, we also know that many wartime veterans, surviving spouses, and families may not be aware of benefits that could help with the cost of long-term care.

One important VA benefit is Aid and Attendance. This benefit may help qualified veterans and surviving spouses pay for care at home, in assisted living, in board and care, or in a skilled nursing facility. To learn more about the Aid and Attendance benefit, contact American Veterans Aid at 877-427-8065 or click here to get started.
