American Veterans Aid's VA accredited Claims Agent
Phil VanderHamm has worked in the financial services industry for over 25 years, having been an insurance agent and stock broker for much of that time. He was on staff at MetLife for 7 years specializing as a Pension consultant from 1992 to 1999. During that time he obtained numerous accreditations, including:
CLU, Chartered Life Underwriter,
CEBS, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist,
QPA, Qualified Plan Administrator of the American Society of Pension Actuaries
On August 20th, 2010, Mr. VanderHamm was approved as an accredited agent for the Veterans Administration. In order to obtain that accreditation he studied the Code of Federal Regulations, section 38, and also hundreds of pages of interpretive guidelines for the CFR 38. He was able to find online many of the state training manuals that also cover CFR 38. CFR 38 covers not only the non-service connected Pension benefits but also Service Connected Compensation Benefits. A test is given over these hundreds of pages of regulations and the questions cover both service connected and non-service connected benefits.
In addition, he is required to do continuing education on a biannual basis. On a daily basis he reviews current issues and questions with other accredited agents and attorneys in a forum that has over 500 members.

Steven L. Hayes, Esq.
AVA's Corporate Attorney
Steven L. Hayes was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where, inspired partly by the fact that his father was the County Sheriff, he seemed destined to find his life’s work in helping and protecting others.
He graduated with Honors from the University of Arkansas and then with Honors from the University of San Francisco Law School. Over many years of private law practice, Steven had occasion to help people who were themselves victims of what he considered to be unscrupulous medical practitioners.
